Opera Jobs
Becoming an opera singer is largely based on natural ability and talent – you need to have the voice! Most people discover their natural talent at a very early age, although men do need wait until their voices have matured to discover whether they can sing classical pieces. People’s voices also mature at different rates but specialised training is required by all classical singers. The best advice is to consult a reputable and honest classical voice teacher to get an opinion about your prospects.
Working as an opera singer requires patience, sacrifice and a great deal of hard work. Studying not only includes rehearsal time and singing lessons but also learning foreign languages, music history and stage work. The schedule of travelling between venues can also be exhausting. Opera may be a rewarding profession but perhaps not as glamorous as you might expect.
