With the artist's support, Down to Earth will take the lead in recruiting 50 local households to act as Agents of Joy, empowering them to carry out these missions within their community. The goal is to spark small, meaningful moments of joy and connection in well-known and hyperlocal spaces. We hope to develop a committed and creative group of residents by the end of this project, who will serve as the foundation for the future Down to Earth programme. The timeline for this project is flexible and could span up to a year, however please keep in mind that the more household missions we include, the lower the budget allocation for each. The timeline will be discussed in collaboration with the chosen artist/s, Down to Earth core team and our core community panel. We envision this project as an opportunity for a community to engage with and contribute to other upcoming activity on the Down to Earth programme, with the missions potentially serving as a lead-up and key part of the following activity: Everyday festival of creativity May 2025 Flashes Festival of Nature July 2025 Public Art Trail September 2025 Light Up Leigh November 2025 The total budget is £20,000 inclusive of all costs, VAT and delivery. The artist/s fee is expected to be roughly half of the commission fee. There is a separate budget for documentation and evaluation. Approximately 50 days of work required in total. We believe that offering a variety of artistic opportunities for residents to engage in would be beneficial for this project. However, if you have a particular art form in mind, we are open to discussing it. What we don't know: The names 'Borough of Joy' and 'Agents of Joy' are just placeholders and we would welcome applicants to re-brand these in line with their project How we frame the invitation to recruit participants How often the missions will take place (we think weekly is probably too often) Various art forms available for participation and engagement The balance between asking participants to come together and delivering missions in their own neighbourhoods Best method of delivering materials for missions To apply, please send your application to [email protected] by 9am on Friday 27th March 2025. Within your application, we would like the following information: • Personal Information e.g. your full name, date of birth, address, phone number and email address You can present your application in the format that feels most appropriate.
