If that sounds like you, we are looking for a creative, confident and organised individual to join the Wide Open Paignton team as Assistant Producer on a part-time basis.

Filament is leading on the delivery of the cultural programme aligned with the redevelopment of Paignton Picture House across 2023-25. The programme brings together cultural partners, artists, creatives, communities and audiences to celebrate and showcase creativity in the heart of Paignton.

The programme is supporting the creation of new skills development and paid work opportunities for talented local people looking to gain further experience and with an ambition to sustain a freelance creative career in Torbay. Across 2024-25 a number of Assistant roles will be recruited to support delivery of specific aspects of the cultural programme.

Alongside gaining skills, experience and paid work, the assistantships will benefit from one-to-one career coaching and mentorship to support their personal career ambitions. Applicants are expected to commit up to 2 days unpaid time to take part in the personal career development programme that is part of this role. This time will be organised to fit round assistants and mentors availability, and is likely to involve half day sessions at key points in the role (ie beginning, middle and end).

Job Requirements

  • Some experience working with creative and performance projects, ideally in a producing or other organising role
  • Interest in gaining skills and experience in a producing capacity
  • Able to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Calm under pressure
  • Well organised and resourceful
  • Willing to work some antisocial hours and understand the demands of a busy event weekend (longer shifts will be allocated to the weekend intensive)
  • Good communication skills
  • Friendly and welcoming manner.
  • An interest in and knowledge of the arts, cultural events and Paignton town.
  • Commitment to around 2 days personal and tailored career development support offered through this programme (not paid).

Job Responsibilities

Key tasks:

  • Work with Filament's Wide Open team to support the successful delivery of a diverse/broad programme of artistic works and events across July - Dec 2024
  • Tasks will be many and varied each day depending on what needs to be prioritise and to respond to artist and project needs in the lead up to and running of events for example:
    • Supporting artists and project get in / out of venues
    • Supporting technical and production set up and running during events
    • Supporting aspects of event delivery: front of house, stewarding, liaising with artists, volunteers, public audiences
    • Documenting activity (photo, capturing feedback or data)
    • Social media and digital marketing working with the comms team
    • Production runner and moving equipment and infrastructure elements eg signage, cordons etc between sites (some lifting and manual handling required)
  • Liaise with artists, venues and partners and the public and be a good ambassador for the programme at all times.
