Job Description

  • Work with the exhibitions, curatorial, conservation, collections management teams to identify handling, packing and mounting requirements relating to objects selected for temporary or long-term display.
  • Manage and contribute to object moves, handling, mounting, packing and storage projects as required.
  • Contribute to the preparation of outward loans from the collections, including packing, framing, technical assessments for display and mount making.
  • Provide technical expertise to exhibitions and programmes proposals, including technical support for installation/de-installation of objects for temporary exhibition, display and other ad-hoc projects across campus.
  • Produce technical plans and prepare materials for temporary exhibitions and longer-term display.
  • Source materials, equipment and mounts for exhibitions and displays.
  • Maintain smart appearance of exhibitions and displays including in-house and external print and production.
  • From time-to-time support student and community co-creation of exhibitions or displays.
  • Share responsibility for the management of the workshop with the other users, ensuring compliance with university and departmental H&S guidelines, including carrying out Risk Assessments/Method Statements.
  • Maintain oversight of workshop materials, resources and all equipment, develop audit systems as required.
  • Prepare Risk Assessments as and when required.
  • Develop and advocate for best practice around sustainability of exhibition design, mount making and materials.

Job Requirements

We are looking for candidates who in particular have the following experience and skills:

  • Demonstrable experience in handling, packing and moving a wide range of museum object types and artworks
  • Demonstrable practical experience of mount making design and production
  • Experience in supporting the delivery of exhibitions, including setting up and maintaining AV and other display equipment
  • Track record of delivering projects on time that involve coordination of different stakeholders
