The Traverse Theatre is looking to appoint an experienced, creative and energetic Director of Producing & Programme to work closely with the CEO/Executive Producer to deliver the strategy for the producing and programming of the Traverse.

The Role in Our Team:

The Traverse operates as a team across its multiple operations, with collaboration being key to the success of the organisation. The Director of Producing & Programme will report to the CEO / Executive Producer. Once appointed, the postholder will manage the producing and programme teams.

The Role Will...

- Provide leadership for the Traverse's producing and programming, collaborating with the creative team to set and deliver a successful producing strategy for all creative and artistic activities on stage and off.

- Nurture relationships with producers and companies across industry sectors, to maintain and develop the national and international reputation of the Traverse as a leading UK theatre and home for new ways of making and sharing work.

- Work closely with the CEO/Executive Producer to ensure the Traverse's programme clearly articulates the organisation's vision and values, serving audiences, participants, artists, staff and stakeholders.

- Work with the Exec/Senior Management Team to set ambitious revenue targets across the programme that balance ambition and risk within a robust financial framework.

Job Requirements

Essential:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • An open and curious attitude.
  • Experience of producing and coproducing creative work.
  • Experience of successful programming.
  • Experience of touring creative work.
  • Competency in industry agreements and negotiation, including IP rights.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills; a highly organised multi-tasker.
  • Energetic and creative approach.
  • A passion for promoting equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • A passion for environmentally sustainable theatre making.
  • Experience of technical requirements for theatre and stage.
  • Experience of working at a Senior Management level, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of UK, Scottish and international theatre landscape.
  • Strong monitoring and evaluation skills.
  • Flexibility to work outside core office hours.

Desirable:

  • Festival experience.
  • Experience of producing digital work.

Job Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Driving and building strategic programming relationships.
  • Working with the team to deliver a sustainable and ambitious touring agenda.
  • Delivering for and co-developing a business plan that upholds the Traverse's values through programme and audience development.
  • Co-delivering a creatively ambitious programme that is financially sustainable.
  • Supporting the Traverse in its ongoing organisational development.
