We are looking to engage an artist/fabricator to create one centrepiece from the winning competition idea by Anja Atkinson.

The artist/fabricator should design and make a centrepiece from the winning competition idea, working to a set budget and timeline.

The Development and Alumni Relations office and The Estates and Facilities department will work with the artist to support the process and provide the requirements for the project (e.g., size, budget, timeline). The installation will be provided by the University's Estates and Facilities team.

Through this commission we hope to create:

  • An inspiring centrepiece for the Veteran's Garden

  • An opportunity for staff, students, alumni to see their ideas and stories be brought to life through art.

  • Celebration of Veteran and Reservists contribution to Sunderland

The appointed artist/fabricator should be available between June - November to complete the design and work with the internal facilities team for installation by 31 October 2023.

Job Requirements

Some considerations about the centre piece:

  • 900 x 900 mm base

  • Incorporate an element of glass.

  • Durability/weatherproof

  • Sustainability

  • Anti-theft and anti-vandalism

  • 360-degree visibility

  • Elevated structure for wreaths to be laid against

The appointed artist/fabricator should be available between June - November to complete the design and work with the internal facilities team for installation by 31 October 2023.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design and make an outdoor centre piece for the Veterans Garden

  • Commission commences no later than w/c 3rd July 2023

  • Centrepiece to be ready for installation by 6th October 2023.

  • Official unveiling at Remembrance Service 2023, w/c 6th November 2023 (TBC).
