Want to work with an extraordinary, joyful group of people with learning difficulties, disability or autism who explore disability issues from their own lives through theatre?
Rotherham Open Arts Renaissance is looking for a skilled drama practitioner to work with Life Act, our performing company of adults with learning and/or physical disabilities.
Life Act has established a reputation over the last twelve years for producing often hard hitting and entertaining pieces which explore the world of disability and people’s attitudes, and are/has performed in schools, community groups and public audiences. We incorporate music and dance into performances. Performances are devised collectively by the group, user-led and offer leadership development to those involved. The group has a strong identity and shared ethos of mutual support and aspirational creative endeavour.
Applicants will ideally have some experience of working with those with a disability in such a context and a firm commitment to the social model. We regard everyone in our group as equal adults in the process, so practitioners must be able to work democratically with, rather than for, the group. We are becoming increasingly a disability led organisation.
The commitment would be for Tuesday mornings on a freelance basis. An expectation is that the practitioner would be committed to attending weekly sessions, although there is some flexibility if occasional dates need to be taken off.
Fee: £100 a session.
Application through CV and covering letter.
