Job Summary

We are seeking a technician to design and install a fairly simple yet versatile rig at our new space in The Glitch, Waterloo

Job Description

We are looking for a technician to design and install a simple rig in our new space. The space itself will measure approximately 12m by 6m. Broadly, we expect this rig will involve 4 to 6 colour-less flood lights, 6 LEDs, and 2 spotlights, as well as 2 speakers and a projector. However, we are excited to work with the technician to fine-tune the exact details of what will be installed.

In undertaking this role, you would:

  • Meet with us initially to get a detailed project brief, on the specifications of the space, and what we're hoping to achieve.
  • Design a simple rig (with technical position) that would meet these requirements (ensuring it has the appropriate load bearing capacities).
  • Take feedback on your design and adjust as necessary.
  • Create a list of items needed for the rig.
  • Purchase all items needed for rig.
  • Install the rig into the space.
  • Connect up the rig to a tech position in the space.
  • Create a tech plan/tech spec to be used by incoming companies.

Finance

The total fee for this work will be £1,500 (including VAT if applicable). We expect this to be approximately 8 days (64 hours) or work total. This is a freelance contract.

Additionally, you will have a budget of £3,500 (excluding VAT if applicable) for purchasing all the equipment necessary. We are aware this will mean all the equipment will most likely have to be second hand. We do currently have some of the equipment required, and expect most of this spend to go on lighting. The equipment we currently have includes:

  • Projector
  • Cabling
  • Light desk
  • Amplifiers
  • Sound desk

Job Requirements

To undertake this work, we are looking for anyone with experience installing tech at an event or venue. This could include:

  • People with experience designing and leading technical installs at events
  • A technical assistant at a large venue
  • A technical manager at a smaller venue

Most importantly, we would like to see experience with:

  • Designing technical set-ups
  • Weight testing rigs
  • Load testing (electrical)

The install will either take place towards the end of November, or mid-January 2025. In your application, please note your availability for either period.
