Licensing and Retail Manager, Henry Moore Foundation

An exciting opportunity to develop the licensing offer for the Henry Moore Foundation and elevate our retail presence across two distinguished sites: Henry Moore Studios & Gardens, Hertfordshire and Henry Moore Institute, Leeds, alongside an online platform.

Full Time 35 hrs/wk; Part time (28 hrs/wk) may be considered

Salary: circa £31,000 p.a. or commensurate with experience + 12.5% pension contribution + other benefits

Location: Henry Moore Studios & Gardens, Perry Green, Much Hadham, Herts. A proportion of hybrid homeworking will be considered.

The Henry Moore Foundation, established by one of the greatest sculptors of the twentieth century, boasts a rich collection of over 20,000 objects, encompassing more than a million cultural assets from sculptures to drawings to photographs from which to draw inspiration.

We are seeking a creative, commercially driven professional to help shape the vision and strategy of our licensing and retail offer and then to implement this plan across our sites and online, delivering an inspiring customer experience and generating revenue.

Our ideal candidate will have experience in developing and bringing innovative licensing opportunities to successful fruition; or they will offer transferable skills from a sales/commercial/retail background, including researching leads, developing opportunities and enjoying closing deals. A good knowledge of the mechanics of retail management is required, as well as an eye for detail and keen understanding of retail trends and customer motivations. Excellent communication, negotiation and project management skills are essential for this role, along with a creative flair and an understanding of the sensitivities surrounding a personal brand.

Job Requirements

  • Three years' experience in a licensing or sales/commercial/retail development role;
  • Experience in identifying and following through commercial opportunities to deliver income targets;
  • A confident communicator who enjoys networking;
  • Ability to align commercial aims with sensitivity towards a personal brand and charitable/cultural objectives;
  • Proven track record in negotiation and good financial acumen;
  • Experience of and a keen interest in working in the Arts or in the luxury goods sector;
  • Highly organised with a proven track record in excellent administration skills, attention to detail and ability to work to deadlines;
  • Excellent customer service skills with an enjoyment in working directly with customers to better understand their requirements;
  • Ability to plan ahead to solve problems, improve efficiency and minimise risk;
  • Experience of managing EPOS and online sales systems;
  • Excellent numeracy and literacy;
  • Experience in working in a cultural or charitable organisation.

Job Responsibilities

  • Help shape the vision and strategy of the Foundation's licensing and retail offer;
  • Research and develop leads to create commercial opportunities and partnerships;
  • Develop and nurture licensing opportunities;
  • Manage licensing agreements;
  • Identify appropriate territories and obtain necessary trademarks;
  • Manage the delivery of commercial projects and partnerships;
  • Develop opportunities for filming and photoshoots;
  • Develop new product lines for the gift shops and be responsible for retail stock management;
  • Create appealing visual merchandising displays;
  • Promote wholesale retail to Henry Moore exhibition touring venues;
  • Promote and manage retail e-commerce sales;
  • Complete annual stock take at both sites;
  • Develop the print on demand offer;
  • Promote and manage sales of lithographs, etchings and maquettes;
  • Keep website updated regarding licensing, filming and retail;
  • Manage delegated budgets and work towards income targets;
  • Produce sales reports and contribute to Board report.
