Job Summary

South Side are on the search for a Musical Director to musical direct our summer production of ‘Madagascar: a Musical Adventure JR’ with 2 amazing casts of 7–11-year-olds.

Job Description

We are seeking to appoint a passionate Musical Director who is able to inspire pupils of all abilities, with experience of acting and musical theatre coaching.

The Musical Director will join South Side's team of creative practitioners every week as the company grows, heading towards new class dates throughout 2024 and beyond.

Job Requirements

Essential

  • Experience and knowledge of the theatre industry.
  • A background of musical directing in classes or productions.
  • Confident, team player who's happy to bounce of other ideas.
  • Knowledge of child protection procedures and plans.
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced environment and therefore easily adaptable to circumstances.
  • Confident teacher, being able to deliver a wide range of singing exercises to a high standard to children and teenagers.
  • Experience of working with a theatre creative team

Desirable

  • Experience of working with children.
  • Be at least grade 8 on the piano.
  • Diploma or Degree level training in Musical Theatre or other relevant subject or training.
  • Experience of musical directing on productions with young people.
  • Open to further opportunities for South Side Theatre.
  • Have valuable links within the theatre industry.
  • Have a valid DBS (South Side can organise this if you don't have one).

Job Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • To run all musical rehearsals with our young members, running vocal warm-ups and teaching specific musical material, whilst keeping the South Side Theatre ethos.
  • To work collaboratively with a creative team to produce Shrek the Musical.
  • To work closely with the Artistic Director to create his artistic vision for South Side Theatre Academy.
  • To follow the ethos of South Side Theatre Academy's Weekly Theatre Academy Programme.

Potential Future Opportunities (if interested)

  • To musical direct on other upcoming productions, including holiday projects during the Summer Holidays.
  • Potentially running 1-to-1 singing and LAMDA lessons.
