We are looking for a Musical Director for our productions of The Yeomen of the Guard & Patience in August 2023. This role will involve working with both children aged 10-18 years old and young adults aged 16 - 35 years old.

The dates are as follows:

  • Saturday 5th August - Auditions at the Bakewell Medway Centre, Bakewell, for both shows
  • Sunday 6th August - Friday 11th August - Rehearsals and performance for Yeomen of the Guard (in The Chapel Playhouse, Chapel-en-le-Frith.)Saturday 12th August - Yeomen performance at the Bakewell Medway Centre
  • Sunday 13th August - Saturday 19th August - Rehearsals and performance for Patience (in the Bakewell Medway Centre, Bakewell)
  • Sunday 20th August - Performance in Chapel Playhouse, Chapel-en-le-Frith.

For the two weeks, we are able to offer payment of £1050. We are a not-for-profit youth theatre who aims to give children a theatrical experience at an affordable price. We are primarily run by volunteers so this is not a salary, but a stipend. We particularly welcome applications from young people who are looking to gain experience in the arts.

If required, we will also be able to provide accommodation for the rehearsal and performance period. Please let us know as soon as possible if you wish for us to find you accommodation.

Confirmation of the role is subject to passing a DBS check. If you are not already DBS checked we can organise this for you.

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Excellent musicianship;
  • Experience and aptitude to work with and teach/direct young people of various ages;
  • Ability to work with others, e.g., Director, Production Team, Assistant Musical Director (AMD). We want our MD to feel confident providing feedback and suggestions where necessary to enhance the show;
  • Aptitude to plan a structured practice session liaising with the AMD;
  • Ability to balance workload;
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced environment and to extremely tight deadlines, in particular being able to demonstrate experience of working in concentrated rehearsal periods;
  • Confidence in leading small and large groups;
  • A positive, friendly and approachable manner, so that members are confident to ask questions and learn from their experience with PBT;
  • Experience and willingness to conduct two performances.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include;

  • Teaching Children and Adults the music for The Yeomen of the Guard and Patience;
  • Conducting the performances;
  • Ensuring the Cast are aware of their music lines;
  • Liaising with the Director and the Assistant Musical Director regarding what needs teaching on rehearsal days.
