We are looking for a performer to join the creative team for new production, Night Classes. Night Classes is an immersive theatre show that questions the social goal of independence. It challenges the guilt and sense of failure often felt when we ask for help. Inspired by insights of disabled artists on the creative team, it asks, "Wouldn't we all be better off if we celebrated inter-dependence instead?" Audiences will journey through playful, enjoyable learning experiences. Led by 3 guides, they will learn to grow their own, build a shelter & navigate using the night sky. However, the journey towards self-sufficiency is interrupted. Things break. Thinking about the things we need to unlearn recognises our need for inter-dependence. As we dream of other ways of being, the theatrical experience culminates by celebrating what we gain by needing each other. Audiences will begin and end the show as one large group. Within the show, audiences will split into small groups to carousel through learning experiences. (This might change. But it's how we're imagining the show at the moment.) Audiences will meet performer/cook Alex Elliott, deaf BSL-speaking theatre-maker EJ Raymond and others along the way. The mix of speech and BSL invites audiences to tune in, slow down and pay attention in different ways.
