People Advisor, Southbank Centre


Role objectives

The People Advisor is responsible for the effective day to day delivery of people management services and activities for the full employee lifecycle for their nominated departments including recruitment, employee relations and performance management, through the timely provision of HR advice and support.  The role will involve ensuring the SC policies and procedures are adhered to, whilst delivering a people-centric and responsive approach to resolving issues and queries proactively.  This role is key in rebuilding the organisation and ensuring line managers have the information, advice and support they need to attract, hire, motivate, develop and retain talent.  

These roles partners closely with managers and senior leaders within our Business Teams (MarComms and Visitor Experience, alongside more broadly across teams as required) and our  Artistic Teams (Arts Administration, Arts Programming, The National Poetry Library, Creative Learning & Public Programming, Visual Arts (the Hayward Gallery, Hayward Touring and the Arts Council Collection).

Main responsibilities

  • Be a first point of contact for senior and line managers and build understanding of the operations and teams, along with work stream strategies and priorities and how these feed into delivering the Southbank Centre’s mission, vision and values.
  • Provide impactful advice and solutions in line with SC policies and procedures on all aspects of HR including resourcing, change management, reward, learning & development and employee relations.  


  • Oversee end-to-end process for hiring across approvals, Job Descriptions, advertising, selection, offer and on-boarding processes, ensuring inclusive practices are maintained and new joiners have a seamless on-boarding experience.

Employee Relations:

  • Advise managers and senior managers on employee relations cases ensuring consistent and effective escalation process is followed with advice from Head of ER & People Operations and Director of People & Culture as relevant.

  • Manage individual cases working with the Head of ER and People Operations and legal counsel as required.
