Puppet Theatre Maker, Sabotage Theatre Company

We are looking to collaborate for somebody to build us a miniature puppet theatre for our next project After the Rain:

A highly adaptable, intensely theatrical show for pre-school children which will tour play groups and multiple venues, inside and open air.

Ivy can’t wait for it to stop raining so she can go jump in puddles! But when she answers a call for help from a stranded worm she is led on a wild adventure... Soon she is battling seagulls, meeting mystical mushrooms, and discovering all the weird and wonderful creatures that love it when it’s wet! But as tea-time draws on, can the clever crow help her find her way home?

Inspired by nature, After the Rain is a magical show for pre-school children, which uses music and puppetry. The show will be performed in a collapsible booth which packs down into its own box on wheels, and will tour out into communities. The performance will be highly engaging for young children, utilising sensory experiences (such as special lighting effects and illusion), puppetry and music to tell the story.

The puppet theatre needs to be light-weight and transportable. Our ideal goal is that it could travel on a train.

Sabotage props and puppets are made out of recycled materials.

The set designer would work closely with the puppet maker and playwright to create an original set which folds out into various miniature worlds including a forest, a wormery and a mycelium web. We need something visually striking, delightfully transforming into colourful and surprising scenes.

Our ideal candidate would have experience working with found objects, recycled and reclaimed materials. Experience making work for early years and small scale touring work preferred.

Set to be completed by Dec 15th 2022.

Fee: £2000

Sabotage Theatre is based in Brighton. Materials provided, someone with their own workshop is preferred.

To apply please write a cover letter to zoe@sabotagetheatre.com telling us a bit about yourself and what you believe you can bring to the role, alongside with links to photos and relevant work you have done.
