Job Summary

We are looking for an outstanding tutor with experience of teaching young people with SEND and EHCPs to join our college based in Walthamstow, East London and lead on our brand new E3 course. A background in the creative industries is desirable but not essential.

Job Description

Candidates will have maths and English at GCSE grade C / 4 or above, and will be educated to degree level and having worked in a similar environment.

Key tasks /Responsibilities:

- Lead on the development of the course to provide a holistic learning experience including all elements of the programme

- Personal development and preparation for adulthood

- Industry related career experiences

- Maths and English

- Vocational taster sessions

- The ability to work in a way that promotes the safety and wellbeing of young people

- Plan and deliver exciting lessons that support learner progression

- Ensure learners are retained, achieve their qualifications and progress

- Ensure the course has a wide range of enrichment including guest speakers and trips

- Complete learner one to one tutorials and individual learning plans

- Use a range of assessment methods ensuring the learners are inspired to progress by outstanding and prompt feedback

- Mark and assess work and give accurate and timely feedback

- Carry out administrative tasks, including updating and maintaining records of pupils' progress

- Work closely with parent / carers to ensure learners are supported

- Develop and adapt conventional teaching methods to meet the individual needs of pupils with SEND

- Manage and support the delivery of vocational taster sessions in Music production, Art & design, Media etc

- Liaise with SEN management each week

- Attend open evenings

- Contribute to / attend annual reviews and other related meetings

- Work with SEN management to ensure that the requirements of the Equality Act (2010) are met in terms of reasonable adjustments and access arrangements

- liaise with other professionals, such as social workers, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists and educational psychologists

- Organise learning outside the classroom in activities such as community visits, school outings or sporting events

- Manage behaviour

- Attend in-service training

Job Requirements

Essential skills and qualities:

- Teacher qualification or equivalent

- A minimum of 3 years teaching experience specialising in SEN

- To be able to deliver a vocational course within the creative industries, as well as teaching English and Math as a core skill

- Behaviour management skills

- Excellent communication, interpersonal and report writing skills

- An observant and responsive approach

Desired Skills/Qualities:

- Empathise with the challenges faced by young adults in a high free school meals demographic

- Develop relatable lessons to build on and inspire learner needs and interests

- Experience of working in the creative industries using an entrepreneurial approach

- Develop innovative ways of collaborating on projects with other departments

- Extremely organised and able to manage own work load effectively and flexibly

- A sense of humour to build good rapport with learners and staff

- Qualified Teacher full time £40,000 - (PGCE level or equivalent)
