The Post
We are currently seeking an experienced double bassist to join our team of highly skilled
orchestral tutors.
There are currently eight orchestral tutors in our Symphony Orchestra rehearsals (5 strings, 1 woodwind, 1 brass, 1 percussion). All orchestral tutors are highly experienced orchestral players with a wealth of professional experience. Our tutors should aim to attend all MMA
rehearsals (dates below). Advanced notice of any absences will be required as outlined in our MMA Tutor Agreement (which will be sent to you if successful).
The Symphony Orchestra is facilitated and conducted by Jonathan Gibson (MiSST Director of Excellence Programmes) and administrated by Epsie Thompson (MiSST Social Media and Administration Lead).

MiSST's next Annual Concert, which will feature the MiSST Symphony Orchestra heavily, takes place at The Barbican Centre on Wednesday 23rd April 2025 - every effort should be made by our tutors to be available on this date.

The post is available from June 2024. Dates for the remainder of the year and next
Academic Year are as follows:
THIS TERM - 8, 15, 22, 29 June | 6 July

AUTUMN TERM - 21, 28 Sept | 5, 12, 19 Oct | 9, 16, 23, 30 Nov | 7 Dec
SPRING TERM - 11, 18, 25 Jan | 1, 8 Feb | 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 Mar
SUMMER TERM - 3, 10, 17 May | 7, 14, 21, 28 June | 5 July
CONCERT = 23 April (extra rehearsal 22 April PM)

Job Responsibilities

The principal responsibilities of the role of Symphony Orchestra Double Bass Tutor are as
To attend the MiSST Music Academy every Saturday (dates below) between the hours of 10am and 1pm
To attend and assist during rehearsals (full orchestra, leading sectionals, string orchestra, chamber music)
To be enthusiastic, encouraging and empathetic towards our students
To resolve problems discretely during rehearsals
To give clear advice and training on orchestral playing, discipline and techniques
To keep a general eye on behaviour within the section
To play along with the students in the rehearsals
To fairly decide, alongside the conductor, how the section are seated
