Fee: £600 (5 days @ £120 per day)
3 days of R&D with the creative team at The Place Bedford 9-11 Aug 2021
Start Date: Monday 5th July 2021.
Summary of role
Observing community workshops and performances for parents and babies
Contributing to a three day ideas gathering process and digital industry sharing.
We are seeking a theatre designer to join us for the research and development stage of First - a theatre show for parents and babies.
We would love to build a relationship with a designer who will continue with the project into the production stage in Spring 2022.
Our mission is to create a theatre performance which delights both babies and adults and we are drawing inspiration from how our intended audience behaves in the workshops - how they need to move, talk, change nappies and feed, how much interaction they want, what topics interest them and what styles of performance.
Throughout the first three weeks of July the designer will visit workshops in action in a location of their choosing. The workshop locations are Hastings & St Leonards, Brighton, Bedford and Winchester. Observations and creative responses will be noted down looking particularly at how a comfortable and stimulating environment could be designed to ‘pop up’ in a studio theatre space, with integrated lighting and sound to give this audience the best possible audience experience. The designer will speak to participants and watch visiting artists perform to gain a sense of how best to design for this unique (and wriggly!) audience.
For three days development time with the rest of the creative team (Jessica Cheetham - Artistic Director, Ross Drury - Director and Lizzie Franks - Co-Producer/creative collaborator) at The Place Bedford (9th-11th August) the designer will bring prepared notes and ideas to share with the team and take part in discussions and creative explorations, as well as a digital sharing of ideas to promoters and programmers.
Interview Date: Thursday 24th June 2021
