Description

Job Summary

We are looking for an accompanist for our Coventry choir. The Choir with No Name’s mission is to provide a safe environment for all people who have experienced homelessness or exclusion to enjoy singing and to build confidence and skills.

Job Description

We currently run choirs in Birmingham, London, Brighton, Cardiff, Liverpool, Sheffield and Coventry, which has approximately 30 members. Each choir rehearses 47 weeks of the year and is accompanied by a pianist.

Details:

We play pop, rock, soul etc and you'd need to be able to read from guitar chords/tabs. You'd be working closely with the Choir Director, Joe Novelli, and also be supported by the Choir Manager, Sally Debiage.

Our Coventry choir meets each Wednesday evening in Coventry City Centre at 5:45pm for a cuppa. Rehearsal starts at 6.15pm and goes on until 8pm, after which the group sit down to dinner cooked by members of the wonderful team. We finish and leave the venue at 8:45pm.

The post pays £57 per session on a freelance basis and includes a small amount of preparation time. It would best suit someone who is keen to gain experience playing in a community setting and who would like to help enrich the lives of its members by becoming a part of our welcoming and supportive community. You will be accompanying the rehearsals alongside our choir director and will enjoy a free hot meal with everyone afterwards, so will have a chance to be part of the community.

Job Requirements

  • Excellent keyboard skills
  • Ability to provide a strong and rhythmic accompaniment reading usually from melody line plus guitar chords
  • Strong musical background with the ability to be flexible, improvise and think on the spot
  • A genuine belief in the Choir with No Name's vision and values, with enthusiasm for the organisation and the potential of its members.
  • Inspiring, encouraging and approachable personality including sense of humour!
  • Willingness to attend first aid and safeguarding training
  • Willing to muck in with any additional requirements on the night

Job Responsibilities

1. Rehearsals

  • Attend as many Wednesday evening rehearsals as possible (there's a possibility of running a rota which would reduce the time commitment needed)
  • Liaise with Choir Director to learn and accompany appropriate repertoire
  • Encourage and support choir members in their musical endeavours

2. Performances

  • Attend and accompany regular performances (own schedule allowing)
