Job Summary

an enthusiastic and experienced Act 1 & Act 2 Director to lead our youngest theatre-makers in a rolling freelance role from September. Act One (ages 6–8) and Act Two (ages 9–11) are our weekly drama workshop cohorts, where young people develop performance skills, build confidence and self-belief.

Job Description

As the Act One & Act Two Director, you will plan and deliver engaging weekly drama workshops that encourage imagination, collaboration and personal development.
Working with two age groups across the evening, you will create a supportive and inclusive rehearsal environment where every young person feels valued, challenged and able to thrive. Sessions should develop core acting and theatre-making skills while introducing participants to a variety of performance styles, techniques and creative approaches.
You will also evaluate sessions, contribute to the ongoing development of the programme and work closely with the wider CYTO team to ensure a consistently high-quality experience for all participants.

Dates & Times:
Term-time Wednesdays
3.45-4pm - Arrival and briefing
4-5.15pm - Act One session
5.15-5.30pm - Break/Act Two briefing
5.30-7pm - Act Two Session
7-7.15pm - Debrief and evaluation

Autumn Term
9th, 16th, 23rd & 30th September
7th, 14th & 21st October
4th, 11th, 18th & 25th November
2nd December
(Spring and ongoing term dates shared on appointment.)

Fee:
ÂŁ105 per week
Two sessions per Wednesday (ÂŁ52.50 per session)
Equivalent to ÂŁ30 per hour

Role Development
CYTO if fortunate to receive various commissions and additional projects throughout the year. If these occur, we'd discuss the remit of the role and negotiate compensation for additional time-compensation. The ideal candidate will actively seek these opportunities in order to offer new and exciting opportunities for the members.

Job Requirements

Applicants should:
Have substantial experience working with children aged 6-11yrs in a rehearsal room and/or drama workshop setting.
Have substantial experience planning, delivering and evaluating engaging drama workshops for children.
Be confident adapting activities to meet a range of abilities, learning styles and individual needs.
Be reliable, approachable and a positive, supportive role model for young people.
Have excellent communication and organisational skills.
Hold a current DBS certificate, or be willing to undergo a DBS check and safeguarding training.
Be registered as self-employed and able to invoice for freelance work.

Job Responsibilities

Plan, deliver and evaluate termly programmes of work based on a theme. Previous themes have been 'Improv', 'Rhythm in text', 'Physical Theatre' and guide the young people to a short, relaxed end-of-term sharing that they feel proud of, prepared for and positive about.

Candidates will be invited to a practical interview in person at The Shoestring, Oakley Rd, South Norwood, SE25 4XG, where the candidates will facilitate a 10 minute drama exercise to using other candidates and some members of the youth theatre as participants. This will happen during the w/c 31st August.
