Job Description

Theatre for Life, in collaboration with https://beyond-reflections.org.uk - Beyond Reflections, is seeking four Transgender+ actors to take part in an intergenerational verbatim theatre project that explores real stories, lived experiences, and celebrates Trans+ history and resilience.

This project builds on previous work, The Feeling, and centres Trans+ voices through a collaborative, community-led theatre-making process. The production brings together performers from different generations to create dialogue with audiences around identity, health inequalities, care, and community.

Roles Available

  • Two Trans actors aged 18-30

  • Two Trans actors aged 50+

Role Overview

Actors will work as part of an ensemble to develop and perform a verbatim theatre piece using real words drawn from interviews, conversations, and historical material. Performers will be involved in rehearsals, workshops, and performances, contributing creatively while handling personal and community stories with care, respect, and integrity.

Auditions: 28th February at Theatre Royal Winchester

Hours / Fees

  • 32 days @ £185 per day = £5,920

  • £375 travel and food allowance for touring days

Dates

  • Rehearsals: 9 March - 24 August

    • Rehearsals take place every Monday, excluding bank holidays

  • Preview Performances:

    • 29 & 30 August at Mayflower Studios, as part of Pride Southampton

    • Theatre Tour in two professional venues during November, 2026 (Dates TBC)

Job Requirements

Actors will work as part of an ensemble to develop and perform a verbatim theatre piece using real words drawn from interviews, conversations, and historical material. Performers will be involved in rehearsals, workshops, and performances, contributing creatively while handling personal and community stories with care, respect, and integrity.

Essential

  • Identify as Transgender, non-binary, or gender-diverse

  • Aged 18-30 or 50+ (please apply for the age bracket that applies)

  • Availability for rehearsals from 9 March - 24 August (Mondays, excluding bank holidays) and preview performances on 29-30 August

  • Willingness to work within a verbatim theatre process using real stories, lived experiences, and historical material

  • Strong collaborative skills and willingness to work as part of an intergenerational ensemble

  • Commitment to creating and maintaining a respectful,inclusive, and supportive working environment

Job Responsibilities

  • Participate fully in rehearsals, workshops, and performances

  • Engage with verbatim material, including real-life testimonies and Trans+ histories

  • Collaborate with the creative team and fellow performers in an intergenerational setting

  • Approach sensitive material thoughtfully within a trauma-informed process

  • Contribute creative ideas to the development of the work

  • Uphold a respectful, inclusive, and supportive working environment

  • Commit to the three theatre venue professional tour (August & November)
