Friction Arts are on a quest to find the right Lead Artist/ Tutor to work with an inspiring group of young people with different needs, abilities and SEN. Our Art Club is a free, weekly term-time Club, which supports young people aged 8-18 yrs old to explore their creativity.
Hosted by Friction Arts, we are seeking a practitioner with the experience of supporting young people to express themselves and their worlds through the prism of the Arts.
This Lead Artist/ Tutor will be working alongside artists from our wider team as well as managing a dedicated Art Club team, many of whom are former Art Club members.

- Short listed applicants asked to deliver a morning or afternoon session with young people of Art Club; and will include a Youth Panel interview on Saturday 31st of January (this will be paid regardless of outcome).

We are looking to hire a highly skilled Art Club Lead Artist/ Tutor to be responsible for leading the next phase of Art Club. We are seeking someone who is confident in working responsively with young people, on individual and group projects with the skills to listen and negotiate with the group as a whole. The Lead Artist/ Tutor will be responsible for driving development for everyone at our Art Club using their artistic, tutoring and managerial expertise.
As Art Club Lead Artist/ Tutor you will manage our Art Club programme, based in Digbeth, Birmingham. Working two days per week (16 hours) during term times (one day delivery, one day admin/planning) .5 day non-term time (4 hp0ours); extra days as needed, negotiated and reflected financially.
You will lead on session planning, programme development, pastoral care, evaluation, project organisation, creative sharing events of children and yp's work, managing timetables for yp and staff, managing support staff and associated needs for the programme.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in teaching or tutoring young people with a range of different needs, abilities and SEN.
- Proven experience running an innovative, collaborative and socially-engaged Arts curriculum
- Demonstrable knowledge and proficiency in a range of artistic disciplines
- Experience in team leadership, management and evaluation
- Excellent communication skills and teamwork-oriented attitude
- Problem solving attitude
- Able to drive change and inspire others to generate new ideas
- Tutor and support young people, ensuring respect for their artistic vision
- Work closely with Friction Arts' Core Team and Art Club team to ensure that the programme achieves its aims and ambitions on time and in budget
- Define and establish standards and systems to meet objectives and work with existing systems, e.g. participant registers and waiting lists.
- Guide, mentor and develop the Art Club team, including volunteers, ensuring the team are aligned with Friction Arts' objectives
- Encourage creativity and participation from all team members
- Devise, collaborate with Art Clubbers, 'Create' Youth panel, to devise appropriate sharing events/exhibitions, trips, appropriate opportunities aligned with and for the children who attend Art Club.
- Actively participate to the constant improvement of work methods
- Share knowledge and recommend best practices
- Manage and administer budget and paperwork relating to the Art Club
- Ensure that schedules and plans meet project needs
