Job Summary

As part of the ArtForms Curriculum Team you will provide quality music education, teaching the national curriculum for music to full classes in primary schools within the Leeds metropolitan area.

Job Description

You will work in a number of different schools in a week and will be responsible for travel between sites. We welcome applicants who have teaching experience in either primary or secondary settings. The 26 hours will be allocated over a 5 day working week.

As a curriculum music teacher you will use your own skills and experience to inspire and develop all pupils, helping them to progress collectively as well as developing their wider musical understanding and their joy of music.

The role is integral to our offer to Leeds schools and academies; ArtForms has a relationship with the majority of educational settings in Leeds and our teaching team are the foundation of all we do for those sites.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to work flexibly across different work locations and areas as appropriate
  • Ability to manage full classes of children and be sensitive to learners needs and aspirations; to motivate and inspire pupils, staff, parents, carers, partners and the wider community of the school
  • Ability to demonstrate appropriate musical ability and knowledge
  • Ability to work as part of a team in projects and ensembles
  • Ability to work and plan independently and devise and implement curricula and schemes of work
  • Ability to think imaginatively and act creatively
  • Ability to complete tasks to a high standard, displaying excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to develop and nurture a range of partnerships and support new initiatives
  • Ability to manage change in complex, sensitive environments
  • Knowledge required of current best practice in music learning, the National Curriculum and Model Music Curriculum

Job Responsibilities

  • Teach National Curriculum music to groups in a variety of primary and/or secondary schools throughout the city, in line with ArtForms' shared and agreed practices
  • Maintain contact with the management of schools in which they teach and work in close consultation with school staff on matters concerning the music curriculum and policy
  • Maintain short, medium and long term plans in line with the National Curriculum for music and share these with schools as appropriate
  • Plan with regard for the needs of all pupils within the class, differentiating work as appropriate
  • Assist the school to develop its policy on the music curriculum for the pupils they teach
  • Deliver the agreed number of hours' teaching in each scheduled school, either during the school day, and/or after school hours
  • Promote the well-being of individual pupils and groups of pupils assigned to them
  • Be responsible for the musical progress of children in assigned classes
  • Keep records of pupils' progress
