Description

Job Summary

Presented by Tramshed in partnership with Metro GAD

Job Description

Are you a disabled artist with a bold idea for outdoor performance? We're commissioning a new or existing 30-minute performance piece for ParkFest, a festival of open air and free cultural entertainment taking place in two outdoor spaces in Greenwich this September.

This is an open call, and you do not need to be local to apply. We are seeking proposals from artists or companies who self identify as disabled, whether emerging or established, with professional ambition and a strong creative vision.

The Festival will mark the second year in Tramshed's three-year N'Abled partnership, a programme commissioned by Metro GAD and funded by the Rupert Prokofiev Award. The successful artist will be interviewed by the N'Abled Steering Board, a specific board of local disabled activists and members of Metro GAD who oversee this three-year project.

Job Requirements

Key Dates:

  • 19th July: Optional early scratch night or sharing at Tramshed venue
  • 7th & 14th September: Final performances in two separate outdoor spaces in Greenwich

What We're Offering:

  • Commission fee: ÂŁ3,000
  • Production costs will be covered, and we will try our very best to support your vision in a collaborative process with the selected artist
  • Rehearsal space available (times to be agreed with selected artists)
  • Support from a dedicated Tramshed Production Manager to help get your piece show-ready
  • Collaborative process with Metro GAD and N'Abled, who will be part of the interview and selection panel
  • Full support to the selected artists to ensure the rehearsal and show periods are as accessible as possible

Job Responsibilities

About the Work:

  • We welcome submissions from all forms of performance art, including but not limited to music, dance, theatre, spoken word, drag, circus, multimedia, and experimental work
  • Content must be suitable for daytime public space, including children and community members of all ages and experiences
  • Around 30 minutes in length (longer pieces can be discussed)
  • The work can be brand new or previously performed. Please let us know in your application where it has been shown before
  • Our N'Abled Steering Board are disabled activists themselves, and are therefore especially interested in work that is activist, exciting, and challenges perceptions of what disabled people can do. There are absolutely no parameters around how this may be presented; work, for example, may be celebratory, questioning, comedic or dramatic
