Job Description

Artist Commission Call Out

About

Ground Up is a Burnley based art group with a 12 year history of community commissioning

artists to create alongside and with the group of local residents. With a track record of

engaging with artists particularly interested in socially engaged practice. In the past

commissions have been strongly influenced by a sense of place, belonging, commonality

and pride.

The Commission

We are excited to offer the opportunity to work with the group for a period of 3 months. In which time we hope to learn new skills / techniques and have pieces suitable for exhibition. These exhibition pieces can be created by the group, with the group or by the artist. The group is eager to explore new and interesting themes as well as a variety of materials. Crafts will also be eagerly considered.

Details and Deadlines

We have the pleasure to offer 1 commission taking place between 25th September and 11th December 2025. During this time we would expect a minimum of 8 workshops with the group. Ground Up meets on Thursday 1-3pm and this would be the preferred timing of the

workshops although there is some flexibility.

The exhibition, (which will include work from the whole year) will be in Creative Spaces Burnley 123 Studios from 22nd January to the 22nd February 2026. You will be expected to help with install and provide an event during the exhibition for example a talk or a community workshop.
