Midlands Arts Centre’s Learning and Participation programme is extensive with over 150 term courses and a wide selection of short courses for children, young people, and adults. Our courses cover many subjects, from visual arts and crafts to digital arts, performance, music, and wellbeing.

Principle Purpose of Post

To deliver the tuition of two 12-week Introduction to Sewing and Dressmaking courses for adults, as part of MAC's Learning & Participation programme, starting on Monday 28 April 2025.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about the arts and informal learning experiences and enjoys teaching Sewing and Dressmaking courses and workshops.

You are required to be reliable, personable, and flexible, to cater for each student's personal goals and aims.

The successful candidate will be part of a large team of Artist Tutors who help us deliver a vibrant and dynamic programme of informal learning.

We are looking for someone to deliver both of the following Introduction to Sewing and Dressmaking courses for Summer Term 2025 with the view to continue in a permanent role.

The courses are outlined below:

Introduction to Sewing and Dressmaking TE104

Monday 18:00-20:30

Tuesday 18:00-20:30

Working hours - 5 hours per week during term time

Salary - £21.72 per hour

Additional responsibilities as follows:

  • You will need to devise clear a course structure to enable progression of learning, and the ability to adapt to each participant's needs.
  • Ensuring the course is delivered as per the course description.
  • Teaching students to the agreed level for the course (eg, beginner/ improver/advanced).
  • Preparation ahead of the course for equipment and technical requests by liaising with the Learning Team.
  • Continuous reflection and evaluation on the course, and quality of delivery.
  • Work within MAC's policies with specific attention to Safeguarding and Health & Safety.

Job Requirements

Person Specification

Essential

  • Proven ability to communicate well with a range of people using varied communication methods.
  • Educated/experienced to a suitable level in Sewing and Dressmaking making.
  • Be able to provide a stimulating learning experience that enables participants to achieve their creative potential.
  • A passion and commitment to the Arts.
  • A commitment to further your skills and knowledge in participatory arts, including attending meetings, participating in training, and reflecting on your practice.
  • An understanding of and commitment to MAC's key objectives.
  • An understanding of the practical application of MAC's Equal Opportunities and Diversity policy

Desirable

  • Previous experience in delivering Sewing and Dressmaking courses and workshops.
  • Experience of working with adults with additional needs and/or vulnerable adults.
  • Knowledge of other art forms which may help us expand our creative learning offer at MAC.
