Bristol Pre-Conservatoire is seeking a new artistic director to take it into its next chapter, working alongside its Programme Manager and team of expert tutors. P/T role, c. 6 hrs/pw, including 3 hrs on Wednesday evenings (BS9) during term-time £250 pw during term time

Job Description

We are looking primarily for a visionary educator and educationalist: someone who can lead from the front, inspire students and staff, as well as having a deep understanding of the musical education landscape in Bristol and beyond.

Essentials:
Availability on Wednesday evenings for delivery and for planning hours in addition

Experienced coach of chamber skills (classical, jazz or both)

Relevant management experience

Knowledge of music education sector, local and national

Enthusiastic communicator

Enhanced DBS check

Desirables:
The ability to lead practical creative workshops

Connections to potential partners

Knowledge of tertiary provision, particularly conservatoires

Job Requirements

Bristol Pre-Conservatoire is a prestigious evening school that provides training for advanced young classical and jazz musicians aged 13-19, focussing on creative musicianship and chamber/small ensemble skills. It exists to build on the curriculum and provide an opportunity for talented musicians to be challenged and to learn together at the highest level possible, ensuring they are well positioned to apply for conservatoire if desired.

The ideal candidate will keep this distinct vision of creative musicianship at the heart of the Pre-Conservatoire's identity, as well as happily cross boundaries of musical styles, keeping the whole cohort engaged and learning from each other.

Job Responsibilities

Oversee the artistic planning of engaging weekly opening sessions.

Lead and support a team of expert tutors to ensure high-quality teaching and learning.

Collaborate with the Programme Manager in regular planning meetings to enhance programme effectiveness.

Work alongside the tutors to curate and produce termly concerts.

Proactively identify and develop performance opportunities and other enriching experiences for students.

Invite and coordinate inspirational guest artists to enhance student learning and engagement.
