Captivate is seeking 6 inspiring artists or organisations for our Artist-in-Residence programme throughout the summer 2025 term. Artists will collaborate with primary schools in Ashfield to enhance arts and cultural offerings, supporting teachers in integrating creativity into the curriculum.

Artsmark

This residency is part of the school's commitment to Captivate working with Arts Council England on an action research project focused on Artsmark criteria, which enables artists to work with schools, exploring the following research question: How do the Artsmark criteria promote inclusion in arts and creativity within mainstream primary schools?

  • Number of positions: 6 artists (one per school/ or an artists could deliver in more than one school)
  • Fee: £1800 (roughly 1 day per week for 10 weeks. Fee is inclusive of planning, travel and offering training, professional development for school teachers, TA, leaders and being part of a celebration event.
  • Applications Close: 14th March
  • Interviews: 21st March 2025
  • Training: 3rd April 2025, Venue TBC
  • Location: Ashfield, Nottinghamshire
  • Duration: May-July 2025
  • Performance/ sharing July TBC
  • Schools involved: Greenwood Primary and Nursery School, Priestsic Primary School, Dalestorth Primary School, Broomhill Junior School, Hucknall National CofE (VA) Primary School and Croft Primary School

Job Requirements

We are keen to hear from applicants with backgrounds in drama, visual, or contemporary art, including street art or sculpture. Previous experience working with children, schools and educators is essential. Knowledge of the Artsmark framework is desirable but not essential. Training can be offered.

Job Responsibilities

As an artist in residence, you will:

  • Work directly with children, leading creative projects and performance/ presentation that inspire and engage.
  • Be part of an exciting celebration event in July 2025 with the cluster schools.
  • Support teachers in developing their creativity and confidence in using the arts, offering training, CPD for teachers/ TA's.
  • Help integrate creative thinking into the wider curriculum and work with Captivate and the school to support School Improvement Plans.
  • Be part of a larger programme, working alongside other artists to create a network of creativity across the school cluster.
  • Contribute to the school's Artsmark journey, helping embed arts and culture in meaningful ways.
  • Ensure accessibility and inclusivity, creating an inclusive programme for SEND children to engage fully with the arts, creativity and cultural
  • Network and work with Captivate arts and cultural partners.
