Description

Job Summary

The Assistant Curator (Visual Art) will work with the Senior Curator to realise an ambitious programme of visual arts activity in our venue, as well as those produced and presented elsewhere.

Job Description

Contract: Fixed-term three-year contract, with possibility of extension
Salary: £27,248 (pro rata) - £16,348.80 actual
Hours: 24 hours per week (TOIL). Some weekend and evening work necessary

The Assistant Curator (Visual Art) will be a key member of staff, supporting the Senior Curator in all aspects of the research, preparation, delivery and production of exhibitions and our year-round programme of talks, events and public engagement activities.

You'll work closely with other members of the curatorial, engagement and marketing teams to ensure that the visual arts programme is embedded in the wider multi-artform programme and communicated cohesively to audiences.

Our ideal candidate is someone with experience in a similar role in a gallery, arts centre or as a freelance curator or project manager. Experience is more important than qualifications, and there's no minimum level of education attached to this role.

Most importantly, you'll be open, curious and passionate about art, and enjoy working in a busy, sometimes challenging but always exciting environment. You'll also be sensitive to the needs of artists, their creative processes and the types of support they might require.

You'll be highly organised with excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, exceptional negotiation skills and the ability to communicate sensitively. You'll be an effective problem solver, able to think on your feet, consult effectively and make quick judgements when required.

You'll be adaptable, have a positive attitude and feel at ease using your initiative.

You'll be able to work to tight and often changing deadlines, remaining calm and focused under pressure. You'll thrive in a team but will also be confident working independently.

We're actively working to increase diversity and inclusion within our organisation and strongly encourage applications from all candidates who meet the requirements of the job description.
