You will assist the producer on our new touring Arts Council England funded show/exhibition 'We Are The Lions Mr Manager'. ...the the story of the Great Grunwick Film Processing Factory Strike of 1976-8, and the inspirational strike-leader Jayaben Desai, one of many newly arrived Gujurati women workers from East Africa. For fourteen years TTPs have been producing imaginative, entertaining, socially relevant live theatre mainly for working class audiences at mostly small-scale venues in areas of economic deprivation & social isolation to reach audiences that don't engage with the arts, appearing in community centres, arts centres, libraries, museums & colleges. The company regularly collaborates and partners with artists, venues, campaigners or organisations to create work based on powerful narratives from carefully researched real-life (often hidden or overlooked) events and individuals. Since 2011, the company has created twenty projects and toured fifteen productions, including shows about the Tolpuddle Martyrs, the Shrewsbury24 Pickets, the Women Chain-Makers, the Chartists, the Upper Clyde Shipbuilders' "work in", the Spanish Civil War, the Clarion newspaper and movement, Britain's first black bus driver, as well as their highly-rated productions of The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists. Their work has been nominated for Edinburgh Fringe Stage and Eastern Eye ACTA awards, and won the Stagescripts mailto:10@10 - 10@10 award. Townsend Theatre have nearly always toured two-handers with excellent, well-designed theatre sets and with full lighting, sound and projection, that is operated from the stage by the cast. To assist the producer with coordination of rehearsals, tech & performances.
