Job Summary

The Design Museum is looking for an experienced and energetic Assistant Visitor Experience Manager who can enthuse, motivate, and engage our fantastic team of Assistants and Volunteers.

Job Description

The Assistant Visitor Experience Manager will support the smooth daily operation of the museum and help ensure every visitor receives an excellent welcome and experience.

You will work closely with Visitor Experience management to coordinate staffing, lead and motivate VE Assistants, and support safe and efficient public area operations.

Key areas of focus include:
- Coordinating daily operations, rotas and staffing across public areas.
- Providing leadership, briefings, coaching and support to VE Assistants.
- Supporting training and engagement initiatives to maintain high service standards.
- Delivering duty management on a rota, including opening, closing and safety procedures.
- Managing daily documentation, planners and essential operational information.
- Liaising with internal teams to support exhibitions, events and visitor programmes.

Job Requirements

We are looking for someone who brings:

- Experience delivering excellent customer service in a public facing environment and confidence leading and motivating teams.
- Knowledge of duty management processes, including health and safety and rota coordination.
- Strong organisational, administrative and time management skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- A proactive, solutions focused approach and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the museum.

Job Responsibilities

Terms and Conditions

Salary: Up to £29,890 per annum (rising to £31,086 with effect from 1 August)

Holidays: 33 days (25 + 8 bank holidays) & Christmas Eve (museum closed)

Hours: 35 hours / 5 days per week, on a rota basis, including weekends, evenings, and bank holidays

Location: on-site at the museum

Closing date: Sunday 26 April 2026, midnight

Interviews: Thursday 07 May 2026
