Job Summary

We are seeking an Audience Development Officer to to boost our team in the areas of audience development and marketing. Initial contract is to end March 2027, but successful delivery of the NPO programme is likely to enable the extension of this post in the next ACE funding round

Job Description

JOB PURPOSE:

  • To increase physical and digital audiences by leading the museum's digital engagement activities, including website and social media
  • To develop and oversee the delivery of the Audience Development Plan to increase the number and diversity of users of the Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon
  • To increase volunteer recruitment through targeted marketing and collaboration with community organisations
  • To support the museum's development by managing the collection and analysis of data

MAIN DUTIES

  • To lead the Museum team in maintaining the Museum's online presence across our website, and social media channels, responding to audience comments.
  • To evaluate success of campaigns using Google Analytics and other analytics tools.
  • To create and deliver an Audience Development plan for the Museum, in line with our NPO activity plan
  • To work with the museum team to establish processes to increase volunteer recruitment and retention
  • To work closely with other staff team to maximise the quality and quantity of our audience data and produce reports as required for the Manager, Advisory Board, and Council
  • To be Museum Data Protection lead
  • To be a keyholder and Duty Officer at the Museum of Barnstaple & North Devon as required, to include tea room, shop and TIC
  • Any other reasonable duties as directed by the Culture Manager / Collections and Access Manager

Job Requirements

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Educated to Degree standard or above, or equivalent experience in instances where these qualifications could not have been gained
  • Experience of working in the cultural sector
  • Substantial experience of using social media for marketing, website maintenance and google analytics
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent knowledge of a variety of computer systems, particularly MS Office
  • Ability to work as part of a team

PROBLEM SOLVING, COMPLEXITY AND USE OF INITIATIVE:

  • Ability to prioritise own workload
  • Ability to innovate around social media and website marketing
  • Ability to support and retain volunteers

Job Responsibilities

DECISIONS, LEVEL OF ADVICE AND IMPACT:

  • Part of the museum curatorial team creating and delivering museum Forward Plan.
  • Creating policies, plans and procedures relating to audience development
  • Data Protection lead for the museum

OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Maintenance and development of information on the museum website, social media and other channels
  • Management of Illuminate and other data collection mechanisms to Arts Council standards
  • Keyholder and duty officer for the Museum of Barnstaple & North Devon
  • Participation in full range of museum activities including Front of House cover and exhibition installation
