Job Description

St Margaret's House is an arts and wellbeing charity with a wide range of community outreach. One aspect of this work is our busy and much loved charity boutique, Ayoka. The role of Ayoka Supervisor is a varied, but always with community as the focus and linking to all other aspects of SMH's work.

This role includes some lone working.

This role is four days per week, including weekend work (typically one weekend on, one weekend off), and some bank holidays (Ayoka is open during the May and August bank holidays - where your working rota falls on one of these days, you accrue a day of annual leave). The hours per working day are 9:45am - 5:15pm, including a 30 min unpaid break. Ayoka is open 10am-5pm daily.

  • Ability to work constructively and safely alone, as well as within the wider
  • SMH team.
  • Ability to do a physical job, including the safe way to carrying items (e.g.
  • boxes or bags of clothing / donations) as required.
  • Ability to interact confidently, pleasantly and in a welcoming manner with
  • the wide range of people who engage with SMH.
  • Interest in the vision, mission and values of St Margaret's House.

Desirable:

  • Experience of creating content for social media.
  • First aid training would be ideal, but can be provided.
  • Experience of living or working in Tower Hamlets.

Job Responsibilities

The main duties of the Ayoka Supervisor are to:

  • Staff the shop and serve customers.
  • Support and train volunteers.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and tidiness of the shop, including the window display.

Working alongside the Ayoka Manager, the Ayoka Supervisor will also:

  • Coordinate rotation of stock on the shop floor.
  • Respond to external enquiries from members of the public, and local organisations.
  • Assist in creating the weekly rota.
  • Communicate with volunteers.
  • Assist in banking the weekly cash takings.
  • Update the Ayoka budget with monthly figures.
  • Liaise with our external suppliers (e.g., arranging weekly collections of rag).
