The Bartender/ Duty Manager will be responsible for delivering an excellent and consistent bar service in a vibrant, late-night hospitality environment. You’ll serve a broad range of customers including theatre audiences, walk-ins, and piano bar patrons, ensuring service is professional and safe.
- Job Title: Bartender/ Cover Duty Manager
- Location: Charing Cross Theatre / Players Bar & Kitchen, London
- Salary: £20,000 - £25,000 per annum, dependent on experience
- Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent
- Hours: Approx. 25 hours per week (with flexibility to cover holidays and additional shifts)
- Shift Pattern will typically be across Wednesday - Saturday, noting we operate a late license piano bar till 2am for public on these dates.
Non-Exhaustive List:
Customer Service & Bar Operations:
- Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to specification
- Deliver exceptional customer service in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment
- Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming bar at all times
- Ensure compliance with Licensing Act 2003, particularly under-18 sales and Challenge 21
- Engage with customers and upsell promotions or premium products where appropriate
Stock & Sales:
- Operate the EPOS system accurately for all transactions
- Restock bar efficiently and rotate stock according to FIFO (First-In-First-Out)
- Maintain awareness of allergen, licensing, and trading standards
- Support stock takes, deliveries, and secure storage of high-value items
Health & Safety:
- Follow all health, safety and hygiene procedures including COSHH, manual handling and food hygiene protocols
- Maintain awareness of emergency evacuation procedures and customer safety
Essential:
- Minimum 1 year experience in a fast-paced bar setting
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Punctual, reliable and capable of working independently
- Legally eligible to work in the UK and over 18 due to alcohol licensing
Desirable:
- Cocktail knowledge or mixology experience
- Knowledge of music-led venues, live entertainment or theatre environments
- Awareness of licensing law, Challenge 21 and Weights & Measures Act
- First Aid or Fire Safety trained
Cover Duty Manager:
This position involves leadership and operational responsibility for the Front of House and bar areas. You will ensure a high standard of service and compliance with licensing, hygiene, and safety regulations.
