Job Description

Purpose of the role: To administer the finances of the Big Difference Company and Big Difference Productions.

Hours: 25 hours a week. Big Difference office hours are 9am to 5pm but flexibility may be required for evening, weekend and out of hours working.

  • Promoters, comedians, musicians and artists

Key responsibilities

Financial Administration

  • Working with the Chief Executive, Finance Officer and staff members to help maintain the financial stability of the company.
  • Supporting the Finance Officer in the production and maintenance of the company's financial arrangements including the annual budget, monthly performance data and annual audited accounts.
  • Ensuring the company meets its legal obligations on all financial matters.
  • To process and input into Sage all income and expenditure including issuing invoices and receipts and run all finance operations to do with sales and purchase ledger, bank accounts and expenses claims.
  • To be responsible for payments to staff, freelancers and consultants with due regard to tax status, liaising with Payroll and HMRC as necessary.
  • To provide financial support to Big Difference Productions as required.
  • To liaise with colleagues to monitor budgets and update where required.
  • To maintain records that meet all legal and tax requirements.
  • To provide financial support to all fundraising and grant application processes.
  • To work alongside the Finance Officer to assist the company auditors to prepare annual accounts.

Other

  • Keep abreast of financial and legal developments that may affect the company and its charitable status.
  • To undertake any other duties which may reasonably be required by the Chief Executive

Job Requirements

Essential

  • IT proficient with knowledge and experience of using SAGE payroll and accounts packages and Microsoft packages such as Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to explain complex financial information to non-financial professionals and trustees.
  • Experience of financial planning, budgeting and profit/loss and cashflow forecasting.
  • Experience of managing competing priorities and working to deadlines.
  • Empathy with the aims and objectives of the company.

Desirable

  • Knowledge and experience of the not for profit/charity sector and its legal and financial requirements
  • Ability to work flexibly to respond to the needs of multiple complex projects
  • Ability to solve problems creatively
  • Degree level or equivalent and a professional accountancy qualification.
  • Innovative and able to adopt creative approaches to obstacles and challenges
  • Strong personal skills and a passionate approach to delivery and results
  • Openness to new ways of working and the willingness to em
