Maggs Bros. Ltd. is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to join our small and friendly team. This role is central to maintaining the accuracy and integrity of our financial records and supporting the day-to-day operation of the Finance function.

Bookkeeper

Location: Office-based (3 days per week)
Reporting to: Financial Controller
Full-time equivalent salary: £30,000-£35,000 per annum. Actual salary will be paid pro rata based on a 3-day working week.

Key Responsibilities

- Process sales invoices from the Company's in-house systems into Sage accounting software.
- Enter, maintain, and reconcile purchase invoices accurately.
- Prepare and manage bi-weekly supplier payment runs.
- Reconcile receipts from credit card providers and online payment platforms.
- Manage company credit card transactions and employee expense claims.
- Maintain accurate accounts payable and accounts receivable ledgers.
- Monitor outstanding customer balances and assist with credit control activities.
- Reconcile bank accounts and investigate discrepancies promptly.
- Process and reconcile petty cash transactions.
- Reconcile financial information between Sage and internal systems.
- Assist the Financial Controller with month-end procedures, reconciliations, management accounts, and other financial reporting requirements.
- Support the wider finance function with ad hoc accounting and reporting tasks as required.
- Maintain organised electronic and paper filing systems.
- Provide general administrative and secretarial support to the business.
- Order and manage office stationery and supplies.

Job Requirements

- Minimum 2 years' experience in a bookkeeping, finance assistant or accounts role.
- Practical experience using Sage Accounting (Sage 200 desirable).
- Experience of dealing with multiple currencies and bank accounts.
- Experience processing invoices, payments, journals and reconciliations within Sage.
- Experience preparing financial reports from accounting software.
- Experience using Microsoft Excel.
- AAT qualified or studying towards AAT Level 3 or above, or equivalent bookkeeping qualification is desirable but not essential.
- Interest in books, publishing, history, or the cultural heritage sector would be advantageous.

Job Responsibilities

The Bookkeeper is responsible for providing bookkeeping, accounts, and administrative support to the business, maintaining accurate financial records, supporting the effective operation of the Finance function, and assisting with management accounts and related financial reporting.
