Required to start in spring term 2026: Instrumental Instructor of brass - 3.5 hours per week initially.

We have an exciting opportunity to come and join the Music Service team as an Instrumental Instructor.

About the Role

The role will involve working in Primary and Secondary Schools across North Yorkshire providing instrumental tuition working with children as individuals and in small group settings. Whole class instrumental work is also available within this role which is payable on the Qualified Pay Scale for those with QTS. As the roles are across the county the ability to travel is essential and travel time between schools is payable at the same hourly rate as teaching. Travel expenses between schools are claimable at 45p per mile. In this role, you will plan lessons for pupils across the academic year and assess progress keeping parents/guardians and schools updated with regular feedback.

Job Requirements

What We're Looking For:

  • Excellent instrumental skills.
  • Effective teaching strategies for instrumental music.
  • Experience with regards to musical resources.
  • Great written and verbal communication.

Essential:

  • Degree or postgraduate qualification in music/performance.
  • Strong knowledge of instrumental repertoire and teaching strategies.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel across the county and work flexibly, including evenings/weekends.

Desirable:

  • Ability to teach/play more than one instrument.
  • Experience in safeguarding and partnership working.

At interview you will be required to perform a piece of your choice on your instrument and perform a sight-reading test of approx. Grade 5 standard.
