Job Summary

To take a lead in overseeing and maintaining York Theatre Royal’s buildings and spaces. To carry out appropriate maintenance work promptly and to the highest standards to deliver an excellent support facility.

Job Description

Main Duties

To follow all company statutory and legal regulatory requirements, including H&S and security.

To work with/support the two Health and Safety Supervisors for YCTT and ensure weekly building inspections are carried out and any remedial work is carried out in a timely way.

To promptly respond to maintenance notifications from other staff as required

To proactively undertake any necessary maintenance, remedial or preventative work across YTR properties, to include simple joinery work, simple plumbing, basic electrical maintenance (including changing lamps, fuses etc.,) painting and decorating

To oversee the upkeep and maintenance of the outdoor Patio area

Implement and maintain company statutory and legal requirements including fire, health and safety, hygiene, electricity at work, and all local by-laws

To ensure all systems meet the standards required by GDPR and other relevant legislation

To follow COSHH regulations, in particular the storage of hazardous substances, and to ensure COSHH files are maintained

To support the effective use of all building systems, including key security, CCTV, burglar and fire alarm systems, ensuring they are fit for purpose and maintained

To be the first person in attendance and to open up the Theatre at 8am and be responsible for the opening up procedures, at the start of a working day, as required.

To liaise with external suppliers and contractors as necessary

To ensure energy conservation initiatives are implemented

To support day-to-day operational functions, as required

To attend additional training suitable to the role

To undertake any other duties which may be reasonably required by the Operations Director

Job Requirements

Person Specification

Essential

Previous maintenance experience including electrical, plumbing or painting and decorating

Good knowledge of Health and Safety and its practical application in a public building

Experience of managing maintenance contracts and working with external contracts

Experience of acting as a key holder and managing security systems

Good communication skills

Excellent organisational skills

An enthusiastic and positive character and a good team player

Strong IT skills

Ability to work evenings & weekends

A full, clean driving licence

An interest in theatre

Desirable

IOSH trained
