Arun Arts Ltd, the charitable organisation and venue operator behind the Alexandra Arts Centre, is seeking an experienced, proactive and community-focused Buildings & Technical Manager to join us at a hugely exciting time as we prepare to reopen our newly redeveloped venue. Following a major redevelopment, the Alexandra Arts Centre will become a flagship cultural venue for Bognor Regis and the wider region, with a 396-seat theatre, multiple studio and community spaces, food and beverage operations, and a varied programme of professional performances, community activity, education, events and commercial hires. Reporting to the Venue Director, the Buildings & Technical Manager will lead the safe, efficient and professional operation of the venue's technical infrastructure, building systems and production delivery. This is a senior operational role combining technical theatre management, building operations, health & safety, compliance, contractor management, production delivery and team leadership. A significant part of the role will take place before the public opening. Joining approximately 4-5 months prior to opening, you will play a leading role in the mobilisation and technical handover of the venue, helping establish maintenance systems, technical standards, safe working practices, operational procedures and training processes. Once operational, you will lead technical delivery across performances, events, hires and community activity, working with visiting companies, freelancers, contractors and internal teams. You will also oversee building maintenance, Building Management Systems, contractors, technical equipment and operational standards. Health & safety will be central to the role, including supporting risk assessments, safe systems of work, emergency planning, contractor management and compliance across areas including fire safety, LOLER, PUWER, COSHH and working at height. We are looking for someone who combines strong technical knowledge with operational leadership, professionalism and a collaborative, community-focused approach. You should have: Experience working in a theatre, arts venue, live events or similar public-facing environment. Lead the safe and efficient technical operation of the venue across performances, events, hires and community activity. Support the mobilisation, contractor handover and operational readiness of the newly redeveloped venue. Develop maintenance schedules, inspection routines, asset management processes and safe systems of work. Oversee building systems, BMS, technical equipment, maintenance and venue presentation. Manage contractors, suppliers, visiting companies, freelancers and casual technical staff. Support get-ins, get-outs, rehearsals, performances, changeovers and events. Act as Duty Technician/Technical Manager where required. Lead and supervise technical teams, including rotas, recruitment, induction and training. Support health & safety, risk assessments, emergency planning and compliance across relevant legislation and regulations. Maintain appropriate inspection, testing and equipment records. Knowledge of relevant regulations including CDM, LOLER, PUWER, WAHR and COSHH.
Knowledge or experience of Building Management Systems (BMS).
