The Courtauld Institute of Art is the UK's leading institution for teaching and research into the History of Art and the conservation of paintings and is also home to one of the finest small art museums in the world. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our Commercial and Visitor Engagement team on a casual basis, delivering exceptional visitor experiences in both our Retail and Gallery admissions areas.

Shortlisted candidates will be selected for an assessment day on Monday 3 February (09.00-16.00). Following this, successful candidates will be required to attend an induction day on Friday 7 February (09.45-18.15)

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Welcoming Visitors: Provide a warm and professional welcome to all visitors, assisting with any access requirements and ensuring an inclusive experience for individuals, families, and groups.
  • Admissions and Ticketing: Accurately sell tickets, memberships, and other products while promoting Gift Aid, memberships, and audio guides to achieve income targets.
  • Retail Support: Engage with customers in the retail spaces, sharing product knowledge and supporting visual merchandising plans to maximise sales.
  • Visitor Flow and Enquiries: Support good visitor access and flow throughout the Gallery, responding to enquiries about exhibitions, collections, and events.
  • Cash Handling and Stock Management: Perform till operations, maintain stock levels on the shop floor, and follow cash handling and reconciliation procedures.
  • Presentation and Housekeeping: Ensure public areas, admissions desks, and retail spaces are well-presented, fully stocked, and meet The Courtauld's h

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • A friendly, approachable, and professional manner, with excellent customer service skills.
  • Flexibility to work across different areas, including ticket desks and retail spaces, while maintaining high standards of visitor care.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to share information clearly and engagingly with diverse audiences.
  • A proactive approach, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Availability for weekend work, with additional midweek shifts as required.
