Become a part of London's largest open pottery studio provider with a high-intensity, operational role focused on the practical upkeep of three pottery studios located in Leyton (E10), Hoxton (E2), and Highgate (N6).

This is a high-intensity, non-creative operational role, based across our 3 studios in Leyton E10, Hoxton E2 and Highgate N6. While it offers exposure to diverse pottery practices & community, the primary focus is maintaining a functional environment for a community of 200+ members. This is currently offered as a 3 month fixed term contract with provision to move to permanent at the end of the period, subject to agreement.

Experience in an open-access ceramic studio is essential, as well as being confident in the processes of making ceramics (including loading and firing kilns). Ideal candidates have a background in hospitality or service industries and possess good people skills.

Desirable: Experience in mixing large batches of glazes (10kg+)

Core Hours: 2 shifts (11 hrs) p/week, with additional flexible cover shifts available

Ideal Start Date: Week starting 9th February

Job Requirements

Security & Autonomy

Our studios operate 10am-10pm, seven days a week, including bank holidays. Technicians frequently work alone, requiring the confidence to manage the floor, handle high-pressure situations, and perform solo lock-up procedures late at night. You must be assertive enough to remove challenging visitors and confront members who break studio rules.

Schedule & Flexibility

  • Rota: Shifts are assigned with core hours + extra hours via a variable monthly rota.

Availability: Availability for evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays is essential. You must be able to work variable cover shifts at different studio locations or off-site events, and during the Christmas period.

Job Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Studio Maintenance: Performing daily cleaning, including toilets, kitchens, mopping floors, windows, and outdoor areas (weeding/jet washing).
  • Physical Labour: Lifting and carrying several hundred kilos of clay weekly, moving heavy kiln furniture, and processing waste clay/mixing glazes.
  • Availability: Availability for evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays is essential. You must be able to work variable cover shifts at different studio locations or off-site events, and during the Christmas period.
  • Technical Support: Loading and unloading kilns, and providing advice to members on pottery techniques and project troubleshooting. Acting as a "beacon of information" for a community of 200+ members
  • Studio Supervision: Opening and locking up the studio late at night, working independently, and managing the facility during 12-hour operational windows.
  • Conflict Resolution: Assertively handling challenging visitors and approaching members who break studio rules.
