A chaperone is required to join the Matilda The Musical team to assist in ensuring the safety and well-being of the children whilst in our care, making sure that they are properly supervised, have adequate meal breaks and sufficient rest and recreation.

A chaperone is required to join the Matilda The Musical team to assist in ensuring the safety and well-being of the children whilst in our care, making sure that they are properly supervised, have adequate meal breaks and sufficient rest and recreation.

All applicants must hold a current chaperone license. References required.

This position is offered as a part-time, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, the hours are around 24 per week, but this can vary, fixed-term contract for 12 months.

The closing date for receipt of completed applications is Friday 13 February 2026

Interviews are expected to take place at the end of w/c 23 February 2026

Job Requirements

  • A chaperone license issued by your Local Authority.

  • Experience of working with children aged 8-13 in a professional environment.

  • Experience of working on stage productions.

  • A good knowledge of standard safeguarding procedures.

  • A strong sense of teamwork.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Diplomacy, discretion and tact.

Job Responsibilities

  • The Chaperone's first duty is to the children in their care. While they are engaged as the chaperone, they may not undertake any other activity that would interfere with their duties. The Chaperone acts in place of a parent and is responsible for the care and welfare of the child whilst in their care.

  • The Chaperone will be responsible during rehearsal and performance for looking after the general wellbeing and safety of the children, in particular:

  • Escorting the children to and from the stage when required during performances.

  • Supervising the children when they are performing both onstage & off.

  • Being responsible for supervising the children between appearances. This may involve taking them outside of the theatre.

  • Ensuring that the dressing rooms used by the children are always kept clean and tidy and that any costumes, props and microphones are properly cared for.
