We are the independent charity that loves and looks after six of the most wonderful palaces in the world. The palaces are the setting for the stories that shape us all, and we're bringing them to people in ways that mean more to them. We want everyone to find themselves in the spaces and stories we share.

Hampton Court Palace, one of the most iconic and famous buildings in the world, is the headquarters to Historic Royal Palaces (HRP) and the Chapel Royal is the spiritual heart of the Palace - a place of worship for visitors, staff, and a regular congregation.

The music department of HM Chapel Royal, Hampton Court Palace is led by the Director of Music, supported by an Assistant Director of Music and Senior and Junior Organ Scholars. The Choir sings two choral services on Sundays and is made up of six professional adult singers, and, currently, 18-20 boy choristers. The choristers rehearse on two evenings per week and are recruited from a broad range of local schools, enabling us is to provide a first-class musical education for children from all backgrounds. Recent ventures involve successful recording projects, filming for television documentaries, and performances at high-profile events, with further ambitions to develop the Choir's profile and activities, both within Hampton Court Palace and externally.

Job Requirements

An opportunity has arisen for a new Choir Chaperone, who will play a key role in the safeguarding and pastoral care of the Choristers of the Chapel Royal, and in the upkeep of the Choir's vestments.

You will work with colleagues to ensure that the safeguarding and care of the Choristers is at the heart of everything we do. This role will involve chaperoning and supervising the Choristers during services, rehearsals and breaks, and responding to any general health or pastoral matters arising. You will also accompany the Choristers on occasional external trips and tours.

Job Responsibilities

An understanding of and commitment to best practice safeguarding is essential, making sure that you follow policies and procedures and respond appropriately to any concerns. DBS clearance is required.

Other administrative duties will include working with the Music & Choir Co-ordinator and Chorister parents to create a rota for any additional chaperoning requirements, as well as managing vestments and measuring for robes.

The ideal candidate will have experience of working with and supervising children and young people. Other qualities required include a calm and approachable manner and excellent communication and organisation skills. You will be part of a small team, working with children who perform at a high level, so reliability and flexibility are essential.
