Job Summary

The Collections and Exhibitions Registrar will undertake collections management duties in accordance with the collections management plan, supporting the temporary exhibition programme at Clifton Park Museum by ensuring accurate documentation and collections care.

Rotherham Museums, Arts and Heritage Service sits within Culture Sport and Tourism and the Regeneration and Environment Division of Rotherham Council.

Rotherham Museum, Arts and Heritage has a mission to 'spark imagination, curiosity, and roots through the celebration of Rotherham's people, stories, spaces and collections.' This mission is underpinned with five values of generosity, quality, inclusivity, wonder and resilience. In 2023, Rotherham Museums, Arts and Heritage became an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation. This funding focuses on delivering high quality programme and engagement across the service venues, collaborating with communities, artists and creative practitioners. Clifton Park Museum and the York and Lancaster Regimental Museum are both Fully Accredited.

The post holder will work as a part of the Collections and Exhibitions team to oversee the efficient and effective management and documentation of the museum collections. They will develop knowledge and understanding of the collections to ensure they are relevant and representative of the communities of Rotherham.

This post is funded through our Arts Council England NPO and is currently fixed term until March 2027, with the possibility of extension to March 2028.

Job Requirements

We are looking for applicants who can demonstrate:

  • Experience of developing and implementing collections management standards.
  • The ability to work effectively at pace, plan and prioritise workload whilst maintaining good communication across all teams.
  • Experience of working with and training volunteers and/or work experience placements.
  • Knowledge and understanding of preventative conservation.
  • Ability to work flexibly, producing and implementing innovative solutions to challenges.
  • An understanding of project management in relating to museum collections and using a collections management system within a museum context.
  • Demonstrable computer literacy and experience.
  • Demonstrable organisation and planning skills.

Job Responsibilities

The Collections and Exhibitions Registrar will:

  • Undertake ongoing collections administration and management duties in accordance with the collections management policy, plan and procedures.
  • Care for and document collections in accordance with Spectrum standards.
  • Update and work to improve the collections management database, ensuring accuracy of documentation.
  • Support the delivery of the ongoing temporary exhibitions programme including supporting loans in and out, whilst ensuring the implementation of the documentation plan within a timely manner and to a high standard of accuracy.
  • Be a passionate advocate for the cultural and historic significance of the museum collections and the importance of collections documentation in enabling greater accessibility.
