Do you have a passion for museums, collections and the stories they tell? At the Museum of Chelmsford, we're a welcoming and ambitious team committed to helping people feel inspired, connected and included through heritage. If you're excited by the opportunity to care for collections while helping others discover their stories, we'd love to hear from you. We're looking for a proactive and organised Collections Assistant to help care for, document and share Chelmsford's collections. Working across our museum and collections stores, you'll support collections management, preventative conservation, research and public access, helping to ensure our collections remain well cared for, accessible and meaningful. The successful applicant will have experience working with museum or heritage collections, strong documentation skills, and an understanding of collections care, management databases and museum standards. The post holder will also enjoy working with colleagues, volunteers and researchers to bring collections to life for a wide range of audiences. The ideal applicant will have knowledge of preventative conservation, along with the ability to plan and prioritise work effectively while maintaining excellent attention to detail. They will enjoy research and uncovering the stories behind objects, and be passionate about making collections accessible, relevant and engaging for diverse audiences. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with colleagues, volunteers and community partners, and will hold a full UK driving licence, with the ability to work across museum sites, including the collections store in South Woodham Ferrers. Joining our team means becoming part of a collaborative and ambitious service that puts people, heritage and learning at the heart of everything we do. If you're passionate about collections and want to help shape how Chelmsford's stories are preserved and shared, we'd love to hear from you. Please apply by 20/08/2026 23:59Job Summary
