Job Description

The National Coal Mining Museum is seeking a proactive and enthusiastic Commercial Development Assistant to drive our commercial success through events, retail operations, and conferencing.

About the role

You will play a key role in supporting the Museum's commercial activity across events, retail operations, and conferencing. Working closely with the team, you will help to deliver a growing programme of commercial events, support seasonal activity, and contribute to the development of new income-generating opportunities. You will also assist with occasional external projects, including filming and media activity, helping to raise the profile of the Museum and enhance the visitor offer.

Job Requirements

You will bring experience in conferencing, retail, and/or events, along with strong administrative skills and a commitment to delivering excellent visitor experiences. You will be a confident communicator, highly organised, and comfortable working flexibly across a varied and busy role within a heritage environment.

Flexibility is essential, as you will need to adapt to a variety of situations when working with the public and colleagues. This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to develop their career in commercial operations within the museums and heritage sector.

This is a 36-hour per week position, requiring regular weekend working and occasional evenings.

Job Responsibilities

Key responsibilities

Support the delivery and coordination of commercial events, conferencing, and retail activity

Assist in the ongoing development and delivery of seasonal and commercial programming

Support income generation activity across a range of commercial areas

Provide high-quality administrative and customer service support to clients and partners

Assist with the coordination of ad hoc external projects, including filming and media activity

Contribute to improving systems, processes, and customer experience across commercial operations
