We are seeking a Community Engagement Producer to lead workshops and initiatives to create an inclusive, community‑driven vision for the redesigned Designer Maker User gallery.

Job Description

The Design Museum is embarking on an exciting project to rethink and reimagine its permanent collection gallery, Designer Maker User.

The Community Engagement Producer will lead on developing engagement initiatives with key audience groups and target communities. The role will involve planning and delivering workshops and forums that directly inform the new gallery's curatorial narrative, object selection and design.

Working closely with colleagues across Curatorial, Learning, Visitor Experience and Communications, as well as with external partners and our appointed Activity Plan consultant, the postholder will help shape a dynamic and inclusive approach to community engagement.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Educational communities (schools, universities)
  • Young people, including our Youth Board and partners
  • Global Majority creative networks
  • Families with young children
  • Groups with unique access needs and diverse perspectives
  • Internal teams involved in visitor and community interaction

Job Requirements

We are looking for someone who brings:

  • Proven experience in community engagement, facilitation or audience development
  • Experience delivering public programming
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with diverse groups
  • Strong organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • An understanding of inclusive practice and audience development
  • Creative thinking around how to make museum collections meaningful to different communities
  • The ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders
  • A commitment to fostering a more inclusive cultural environment

Job Responsibilities

Terms and Conditions

Salary: up to £19,200 per annum, (based on a full time equivalent of £32,000 per annum)

Contract: part time, 12 month fixed term

Holidays: 25 days per annum + Christmas eve (museum closed)

Hours: 21 hours per week (3 days)

Location: the Design Museum (Kensington), with a hybrid arrangement (60% on-site / 40% remote)

Closing date: Sunday 8 March 2026, midnight
