Salary: £30,000 p.a. pro rata
Contracted Hours: 4 days per week (0.8 FTE - £24,000 p.a.)
Contract Type: Permanent
Location: 36 The Horsefair, Bristol, BS1 3JE

https://www.newroombristol.org.uk/ - John Wesley's New Room, Bristol are looking for versatile and energetic Community and Learning Officer to join the team and grow our education and community offer. This role is responsible for developing and delivering a programme of activity that brings to life the story of the Wesleys and early Methodism, making relevant connections with the world today. This includes delivering our formal education programme, family activities and developing partnerships and projects with local community groups.

Job Requirements

We're looking for someone with a passion for history and sharing heritage with diverse audiences of all ages.

Essential

  • Experience working with children and young people in a learning setting.
  • Experience partnering with and working alongside community groups.
  • Experience working alongside and managing volunteers.
  • Creative with a keen eye for detail
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills.
  • Enjoy working as part of a small team.
  • Flexible and adaptable.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Sympathetic to the ethos and values of the Methodist Church and John Wesley's New Room.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of current National Curriculum.
  • Experience of heritage and education in a faith setting.
  • Knowledge of, and contacts in, community organisations in Bristol and beyond.

Job Responsibilities

This role covers three main areas.

Formal Education Programme:

  • Develop links with formal education providers, including local schools, (primary, secondary, sixth form), and higher education institutions.
  • Plan for and manage school visits to site, delivering existing education workshops.
  • Develop new learning resources and workshops (online and offline).
  • Manage and train a small team of education volunteers.

Community & Learning Programme:

  • Ensure a regular programme of community and learning events and exhibitions for new and existing audiences, from conception to delivery.
  • Deliver regular holiday activities programme for families.
  • Manage the New Room Community Choir.

Community & Learning Partnerships:

  • Lead on community partnerships such as Creative Shift delivering annual programme of creative workshops for young people.
  • Seek and develop new partnership opportunities, contributing to funding bids when required.
