Freelance position. £120 per weekly rehearsal session and £215 for concerts and events.

Job Description

LYC is looking for a skilled and experienced choir leader who is passionate about bringing high quality singing to young people of all backgrounds in London. The best candidate for the job will be a keen advocate for introducing boys to singing: helping them find their voices, and nurturing their singing well through the voice change period, and beyond. The new Cambiata Boys leader will be a skilled and musically ambitious conductor and choir trainer, with the ability to vocally demonstrate to a high level across the full changing voice spectrum. They should also be an excellent role model for boys and young men, and an inspirational figure who helps get the best out of a group of young people, in an intentionally inclusive and joyful manner. LYC Cambiata Boys rehearses weekly during term time on Monday at City of London School, Queen Victoria Street, EC4V 3AL. The Conductor will be required to be at the venue from 5.30-7.30pm each week, as well as attending termly LYC concerts and external events.

Job Requirements

Experience of choir training and choral conducting at a high level, with an understanding of best practice in working with young people's voices in the cambiata (changing voices) age range.

The knowledge, experience and musical ambition to make informed repertoire choices for the choir, in collaboration with the Artistic Director

The ability to nurture and inspire young people to achieve quality performances

An excellent role model who is willing to be a positive and vocal advocate for the work of London Youth Choirs and the wider benefits of singing for young people

Experience of working with young people from all backgrounds, and a passion for intentionally inclusive practice

An excellent team player who is helpful and collaborative

Sensitive, aware, and compassionate towards any challenges our young people may be facing

An understanding of the importance of safeguarding and protection of children and young people

Job Responsibilities

Plan repertoire in collaboration with the Artistic Director in good time and with due consideration for operational deadlines

Seek out diverse, ambitious music which our young people will find both joyful and inspirational

Prepare and deliver interesting rehearsals which incorporate musicianship, manage behaviour well, and lead to satisfying learning outcomes for LYC members

Be friendly and approachable to our young people and keen to share their love of music making

Arrive well prepared for all LYC rehearsals, concerts and events, starting them punctually and ready to lead

Support with the set up and pack down of the rehearsals, if required

Commit to attending the choir's weekly rehearsals, and all concerts and events for the duration of the academic year

In case of unavailability or illness, arrange a deputy from within the LYC pool of approved Conductors

Undertake any other duties as reasonably required
