This role involves a significant amount of in-person work sourcing fabrics and costumes, so the successful candidate will need to be flexible and able to work in different locations according to the production's needs. On some days you may be out shopping for materials, while on others you could be based at the theatre for fittings. Although there will be opportunities for remote working, a high degree of flexibility is essential.
Essential Criteria:
- Highly efficient and organised individual with a love for theatre and costume.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with a variety of people across the show and beyond, with the ability to build good working relationships.
- Strong understanding of IT systems such including the Microsoft suite and Google Docs, and the ability to help build and maintain digital records of the show.
- Extensive knowledge of fabrics, textiles and retail.
- Strong understanding of costume construction and basic sewing skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sourcing and Purchasing: Identifying and procuring fabrics and materials, ensuring all costume components are durable and fit for purpose for a highly physical show running 8 shows per week, whilst building and maintaining strong working relationships with fabric suppliers.
- Inventory Management: Monitoring stock levels and managing inventory to ensure all materials are available when required by the wardrobe team and costume makers.
- Administrative Support: Providing administrative assistance and handling relevant documentation and paperwork.
- Contingency Planning: Proactively planning and preparing for covers/understudies to minimise disruption and maintain continuity of performance. Maintaining readiness for last-minute changes by keeping contingency stock, identifying potential risk areas, and implementing practical solutions before issues arise.
- Communication & Coordination: Maintaining clear, timely communication with the Head of Wardrobe
