Job Summary

Full-time, permanent role at HOME, Manchester (£29,832 pa). Lead the coordination, administration and delivery of HOME's visual arts engagement programmes, including HOME Young Artist Studio, Horizons Festival and the Inspire Gallery spaces, for young people, schools and communities.

Job Description

HOME, Manchester's premier arts centre, is seeking a Creative Engagement Visual Arts Practitioner to lead the coordination, administration and delivery of accessible, inclusive visual arts opportunities for young people, schools and communities.

Reporting to the Head of Creative Engagement, the post holder will be a highly organised project lead and an engaging facilitator with a specialist interest or background in visual arts and experience of working with young people. You will manage multiple projects: coordinating and facilitating HOME Young Artist Studio, producing Horizons Festival with HOME's wider team, programming and curating exhibitions in HOME's Inspire Gallery spaces, and proactively shaping pathways to careers in the arts - using art to improve lives and promote health and wellbeing, ensuring the work reflects Manchester's diverse communities.

You will supervise freelance artists and internships, manage project budgets, and implement effective project management and administration to deliver a high-quality offer. The role develops cross-sector relationships and works with Marketing, Development and other departments so the programme connects to HOME's overall strategy.

Job Requirements

Essential experience: delivering high-quality visual arts projects for young people, schools or communities; building purposeful partnerships across sectors (community, voluntary, education, cultural, local authority); project management across multiple projects with effective administration and budgeting; implementing monitoring and evaluation methods; and writing reports for management, trustees, funders or stakeholders.

Skills and knowledge: a demonstrated understanding of safeguarding and child protection; knowledge of a range of visual art techniques, artists and the wider landscape, particularly in the North of England; ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines; strong problem-solving and planning; effective admin and IT skills (Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, SharePoint) with excellent attention to detail; and excellent communication.

Desirable: experience curating exhibitions. A drive to promote access to art and culture.

Job Responsibilities

Work closely with the Head of Creative Engagement to deliver HOME's year-round Creative Engagement offer. Lead multiple visual art projects: facilitating HOME Young Artist Studio, producing Horizons Festival, and curating HOME's Inspire Gallery and wider programme.

Recruit, support, contract and supervise freelance artists and creative practitioners. Uphold financial processes and manage project budgets, reporting regularly. Implement effective project management and administration so outcomes are delivered on time and to a high standard.

Embed best practice and safeguarding when working with young people, schools and communities, shaping an accessible, inclusive programme. Develop career pathways, maintain sector networks, and work with Marketing to promote the programme, writing copy and providing content. Support Development with fundraising and reporting, implement monitoring and evaluation, represent GMAC at events, and embed diversity and inclusion.
